The diagrams illustrate the several growing stages of a species of large fish called salmon.
In the first stage, the salmon eggs are laid by the adult salmons in the slow moving upper river. Those salmon eggs will be living among the reeds and small stones for around 5-6 months, following that the eggs will mature and become ‘fries’. Those fries will then swim to the lower river which is fast flowing, and will live for approximately 4 years. In this stage, the sizes of fries are ranged from 3cm – 8cm.
In the second stage, the sizes of salmons grow exponentially. By the time of salmon reach 12cm – 15cm, they become ‘smolts’, meanwhile, they will migrate from lower river to open sea. Then, the smolts will have the further development for roughly 5 years, and will grow to ‘adult salmons’, which are long 70cm – 76 cm. In the final stage, after the adult salmons become mature, they swim back to the upper river and lay the salmon eggs among the reeds and small stones. Finally, those eggs will mature and repeat for the life cycle of salmons.
Overall, there are three main stages for the life cycle of salmon. In particular, the habitats in three stages are different and size of salmons increase considerably in each of the stage.
