The diagram below shows how electricity is generated in a hydroelectric power station.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The chart illustrates the procedure of making electricity from a water-powered station. It is clear to see that the water will pass through several steps, then be stored at a reservoir for re-using.

At the beginning, sources of energy such as rivers will stream into a man-made high-level container. Then, it should passes through an intake, located at the bottom of the station’s dam. But the door only opens at day. At night, it is closed to prevent water excess. A long pipe at the end of the dam is the place where the flow is determined. With the open of the flow gate at day, water will fall downwards to the turbines, then go to the low-level reservoir, so the hydroelectric station can still generate the electricity without pumping from rivers. Due to this, the aforementioned pipe’s flow will be reversed.

The generator, placed upward the turbines is the device to produce energy. It receives the momentum from the turbines, which is created by the speed of water’s flow to create electricity. Once it is created, the product itself will join the power lines, which are connected to the national grid.
