The given diagram details the step by step procedure how electricity is produced in a hydroelectric power station.
Looking from the overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the entire process undergoes a dual functioning, despite being a single system. The commencing point is the storage of water in a reservoir, which is later used to generate electricity in the day hours followed by pumping water back into the initial system in the night time through a reversible turbine arrangement.
According to the given illustration, first of all, the water from the river is collected into a high-level reservoir. Then, the stored water is passed through a dam in the downward direction with tremendous pressure. From there, the water hits the turbine located inside a power station, which is further connected to a generator to produce electricity to be ready to transfer to the national grid via the power lines. This part of the process takes place during the day time.
Turning to the night procedure, a reverse build-in process in the turbine reverts back the water into the high-level reservoir from the low-level reservoir through the intake point, which remains closed in the night. Hence, the cycle keeps working throughout the day and night times.
