The diagram shows how rainwater is collected for the use of drinking water
The diagram gives information about the rainwater collection process used for drinking in a particular Australian town.
In general, there are five steps in total, starting with collecting stormwater, and ending with being distributed to households.
At the beginning of the process, the rain which falls on the rooftop is collected by the long waterspout and flows through the drainage system under the grounds. Water continues going down the pipelines to the bottom. Each house collects water in this way. The next step is the impurities process which includes four steps in total. Firstly, water is treated to remove plastic, and rubbish, followed by small particles. Bacteria and viruses are sterilized from the water before taking out molecules and salt.
After the filter, water goes from storage to the water treatment where water is treated with chemicals called Chlorine, at a concentration of 4 mg/liter. Finally, when the water is ready to be used, it runs from underneath the ground to people’s houses, ready to be drunk from the tap.
