The diagrams below show the life cycle of the silkworm and the stages in the production of silk cloth.
The graphs depict information on the life span of the insect, used for producing the silk, and the process of such receiving itself. Overall, the silk obtaining is a multi-stage process, starting with the selection of the silkworm cocoons, which passes through several stages of development to reach the weave manufacturing.
Examining the first scheme, the life cycle of the silkworm consists of 4 stages, beginning with laying eggs. Silkworm larva, appearing in 10 days, use mulberry leaves for food and continue its transformation. From 4 to 6 weeks later larva is surrounded with the silk thread, however a tiny part of its body is still visible. The next step of metamorphosis lasts approximately 3-8 days and during this period the insect fully gets inside the cocoon. The final episode of the transformation runs 16 days, throughout which the moth arises and the life span repeats.
Nevertheless, in the silk cloth production only the cocoon of the silkworm is required. Unwinding of the nearly finished thread, being 300-900 m, is preceded by the selection OF the insects, which are thrown into the boiling water. The strings are twisted and covered with the dye in a special pot. The last action in this process is weaving of the finished material.
