The first chart compares how an average household in Australia uses energy, while the second chart illustrates the percentage of gas emissions from those energies.
In general, it is clear that lighting and cooling use the lowest energy and produce the lowest gas emissions. Besides, water heating consumes the second highest energy and generates the highest emissions.
It is obvious that there is a roughly equal percentage of energy consumption and emissions of water heating systems, at 30%. Heating system generates 42% of total emissions, which is a third of energy consumed. The percentage of energy and emissions that the refrigeration system uses and produces is nearly the same, at 2%.
Moreover, refrigeration, lighting and other appliances emit about twice as much energy. To be specific, refrigeration, lighting and other appliances use 7%, 4% and 15% of energy respectively and then generate 14%, 8% and 28% of total emissions in turn.
