The first chart below shows the results of a survey which sampled a cross-section of 100,000 people asking if they traveled abroad and why they traveled for the period 1994-98. The second chart shows their destinations over the same period.

The charts show the number of british people's visit overseas by their reason and their country of destination which gathered from 100000 respondents and spanned from 1994 to 1998. Overall, most of them went abroad for holiday and headed to Western Europe.

The people of UK who took a trip to foreign countries for holiday increased from 15246 in 1994 to 20700 in 1998, despite of a slight decrease in 1995. Business matters stood as the second most common purpose and went up gradually to 3957 by the end of the period. Likewise, families and friends visit also rose to 3181 after its minor drop in 1995. Lastly, other reasons fluctuated over the years.

Meanwhile, Western Europe as the british people's favourite destination stood higher above other destinations and kept going up to around 24000 with a small decrease in 1995. The second place held by other areas with around 1000 people at 1994 consistently went up to about 1500 by the end of 1998. Similarly, North America started at 500 and finished the period with 1000 people.
