The line graph illustrates the amount of water used for agriculture, industry, and households from all over the world, while the table compares the water consumption in Brazil and Congo in 2000.
In general, global water use grew consequently from 1900 to 2000, and the amount of water used for agriculture ranked first among the three categories. In addition, water consumption was significantly higher in Brazil than in the Congo for different purposes.
As can be seen from the line graph, the majority of water use belonged to agriculture in 1900, at approximately 900km3. Nevertheless, the figures for industrial and domestic water use were nearly one-fifth of that of agriculture. The 1900-2000 period witnessed the largest increase of roughly 3000km3 in the amount of water used for agriculture. Likewise, industrial and domestic uses stood at about 1300 km3 and 300km3 in 2000 respectively.
Turning to the table, the population of Brazil (176 million) was just over 33 times much more than in the Congo (5.2 million) in 2000. Brazil had 26400km2 irrigated land more than in the Congo. As a result, water consumption in Brazil and the Congo for people were 359m3 and 8m3 in order.
