The graph shows how China and the US birth rates changed from 1920 to 2000.
Overall, it is clearly seen that there was a similar trend in the birth rates of both countries. They both revealed the fluctuation in fertility, due to a fall down from 1920 to 1945 then suddenly went up during the 1950s before once again slightly plunging together until the end of this period. However, China's government even showed more ambition in family planning by trying to bring the birth rate of this country hit 0 percent after the 1955s.
China's birth rate showed a slow increase by 10 percent in 1920 to 15 percent in 1935 before plunging to a low of just 5 percent in the 1940s. The fluctuation in fertility which was revealed by a sudden jump to reach 20 percent in 1950. As a cycle, the birth rate brought a sustained decline until the end of latter half of the century.
The US birth rate, meanwhile, fluctuated between 10 and 13 percent before significantly dropping to less than 5% in 1945. The next five year just saw a dramatic growth and sticked at around 15 percent in 1950. Later, the following of remaining period is a continuous fall of birth rate as China.
