The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030.
The graph illustrates the usage of six different energy products in the USA in 30 years from 1980-2010, and their hypothetical usage up to 2030 from a report carried out in year 2008. Units are measured in Quadrillion. Overall, the graph of petrol and oil and coal shows drastic increase in their consumption , a little increase in the graph of solar/wind and nuclear is also noticed. While, there is a decrease in the graph of natural gas and hydropower.
From 1980-2030, utilization of petrol and oil rises from 35 to 50 quadrillion units with two downward peaks in two years (1985 & 1995). Whereas, the increasing utilization of coal shows no downward peaks during this time period. Two more energy consumption fuels; nuclear and solar/wind;also shows a slight increase in their usage from 4 quadrillion units up to 5 and 7 quadrillion units respectively.
While, in this same time period, the graph of natural gas and hydropower shows fluctuation in their usage, but their usage prognosis will remain steady from 2010-2030 at 23 and 30 quadrillion units respectively.
