The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The line graph not only reveals the utilization of energy in USA since 1980, but also gives the forecasts by 2030. Overall, it is conspicuous that the use of Petrol and Oil takes up the greatest consumption, while that of Nuclear and renewable resources remains relatively insignificant no matter for the past or future.
For Petrol and Oil, the figure continuously remains at the top of the graph. Starting as 35 quadrillion units, the consumption fluctuated in the first 20 years around 33. Afterwards, it rose constantly and is projected to reach at merely less than 50 quadrillion units by 2030.
As to another two types of fossil fuels, Coal and Natural Gas, their patterns are similar compared with each other, and both climb erratically before 2015. The consumption of Coal and Natural Gas (in quadrillion units) was 16 and 20 respectively in 1980, but met each other for several times afterwards. However, the use of Coal (30) is estimated to surpass that of Natural Gas (25) in 2030.
In terms of other resources, the use of them is all below 10 quadrillion units over the whole period, with the same starting point as less than 5. By projection, the consumption of Nuclear will rank No.1, followed by that of Solar/Wind, and that of Hydro-power will be the last among these 3 types.
