The graph below gives information about car ownership in Britain from 1971 to 2007

The line graph illustrates changes in the number of cars per households in Great Britain over the period of 36 years.
It is clear that while the proportion of families who owned two cars and 3 or more cars increased gradually, the opposite was true for the number of households without a car. The figures of people using one car fluctuated around nearly 45% over the period shown.
In 1971, almost half of all British households did not have a car. Around 44% of families had one car, but only about 7% had two cars.It was uncommon for households to own three or more cars, with around only 2% of families falling into this category.
The one car households was the most common type from the late 1970s onwards, although there was a little fluctuation for this category. The biggest change was seen in the proportion of families without a car, which fell steadily over the 36-year period to around 25% in 2007. In contrast, the proportion of two-car households rose gradually, reaching about 26% in 2007, and the figures for households with more then 2 cars increased by around 5%.
