The line graph compares how much money was spend on books in four countries (Germany, France, Italy and Austria) in ten-year period between 1995 and 2005
Overall, the amount of money on buying books increased in all four nations and Germany was the biggest spender on books despite of the slightly decrease between 1999 and 2003.
Initially, Italy and France spent about as much as each other. However, since 1999, France began to spend more money and the gap had widened. In 2005, money spent on books in France reached just below 70 million while Italy only spent slightly above 60 million.
As can be seen from the graph, in 1995, Austria spent the least amount on books, only 30 million. The spending on books of Austria climbed steadily to 40 million in 1999 and the remained stable before it dramatically increase in 2001. Austria had surpass Italy and become the third the third largest spender in 2005.
