The graph below shows the average monthly change in the prices of three metals during 2014. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph illustrates a meticulous analysis of the change in the prices of three metals: Copper, Nickel, and Zinc across the twelve months of 2014. Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the prices of all these metals experienced a decrease in the first six months, then remained stable from July to September before increasing towards the end of the period. Additionally, nickel started with the highest percentage change of the three but ended up in the lowest position, whereas the opposite was true in the case of zinc.

In January of 2014, the percentage change for nickel based on the previous month was 6%, by far higher than copper (2%) and zinc (1%). Thereafter, its percentage change plummeted to a low of -3% in June, after which it remained unchanged between July and September before ending at 1% in December. On a related note, Zinc navigates a more moderate course, skillfully avoiding the extreme volatilities exhibited by its counterparts. The proof for this inference is that the zin’s price was up only 1% initially, followed by a sharp rise to reach a peak of 3% in February. However, dropping significantly to hit its lowest point of -1% in June, still higher than the lowest point of nickel (-3%), staying relatively stable over the following four months, and growing considerably to reach 2% in December, outweighed copper and nickel to be the highest ending point among all mineral prices in the end of the year.
Finally, commencing at the second highest (at 2%), copper saw its most dramatic fall during the first half of 2014, reaching its trough of -0.5% in June. After stabilizing from July to September, the figure went up marginally to finish at 1.5%, despite a negligible dip in October.
