The diagram compares the birth rate of females in various age groups in UK from 1973 to 2008.
At first glance, it is noticeable that the rates of birth of women in the age of 30 to 39 witnessed an upward trend, while the rest of the groups experienced a downward over the period years.
In the first year, the figures for the group of 20-25 ranked second at over 120 birth per 1000 people, while the birth rate of females aged under 20 was nearly a half as high as that of the former. Afterwards, both groups dropped steadily throughout the time frame.
Females in the group of 25-29 was the highest of all age groups in 1973. This was followed by a fluctuation until 1998 before levelling off at 120 in 2008. In contrast, women who are over 40 years old contributed the least figures over the time scale.
The birth rate of females in the group of 30 to 35 and 35 to 39 ranked third and fifth respectively initially. While the former saw a gradual growth, the latter rose significantly to over 60 and outstripped the group under 20 in the last year of the survey.
