The line chart illustrates the quantity of three types of food consumed in the UK between 1981 and 2008.
Overall, it is obvious that consumption of butter and margarine witnessed a reduction over the period. However, people tended to consume more low fat and reduced spreads that its amount used was the largest after 2001.
Commencing at just above 140 grams in 1981 as the first place, the consumption of butter rose to the all time high of just under 160 grams one year later before experiencing a considerable drop to its bottom of 50 grams in 2007. Besides, the period of 1981-2001 underwent a gradual fluctuation in the quantity of margarine used at around 100 grams. After that, the figure fell to the all time low of 40 grams in 2007.
Low fat and reduced spreads accounted for 10 grams in 1996 before rocketing to its peak of 90 grams in 2001, overtaking the figure or butter and margarine before declined slightly to 70 grams at the end of the period.
