The line graph illustrates changes in the amount of beef, lamb and fish consumed in a particular European country between 1979 and 2004.
A quick glance at the graph reveals that how the consumption of chicken increased dramatically while the popularity of these other foods decreased over the period.
The consumption of chicken showed an upward trend, increasing from just under 150 grams in 1979 until it overtook the consumption of lamb in 1980 and beef in 1989. By 2004 it had soared to almost 250 grams per person per week, which was the highest rate of all.
On the other hand, during 25 years of the period, the consumption of beef, lamb and fish followed a downward trend. In 1979, beef was by far the most popular in these foods, with about 225 grams consumed per person per week. After 10 years period of the erratic fluctuation, its figure fell tremendously to approximately 100 grams in 2004. Similarly, lamb consumption declined sharply over the whole timescale, ending the period at a level one-third its amount in the first year, namely around 50 grams. The consumption of fish also decreased but less significantly, beginning over a little 50 grams in 1979 and then its amount changed plus or minus 10 grams throughout the period.
Noticeably, the period 1979-2004, although other types of food experienced changes, fish remained the least popular food.
