A comparison of first-year English and French teachers’ recruitment according to graduation year from 2001 to 2007 in Ontario and is measured in percentage is illustrated in the line graph. Overall, both figures stood at fairly similar proportion, but the figure for French-language teachers had successfully overtaken that for English ones in the end of period. An immense gap between those had widened out.
Initially, both started at virtually 70% success rate in finding jobs (while French teachers had less successful compared to the English ones). A Considerable fall in the number of new graduates applying for English teachers accounted for 28% while there was a slight rise of applicants for French teachers, with 72%.
A closer look at the graph reveals that 2003 experienced a major change in the graph. Interestingly, while the percentage of English-teacher job seekers decreased continuously to 40%, the percentage of first-year French teachers rose significantly to 68%. This finally was able to surpass English-teachers’ trend. Despite of the fluctuation shown in the figures, the trend was ended by the widening gap for both teaching jobs and French teachers’ figure represented as the highest.
