Overall, in the first three years of the period, it is clear that landfill was a popular place for removing garbage. Moreover, while the figure for waste dumped at sea had no significant change, the two remaining categories shared the opposite trend over the period.
To specify, in 2005, there were 1800 million tonnes of waste discarding to landfill, which was 3 times higher than dumping at sea and the bottom was burning with around 500 million tonnes. From that time onwards, landfill experienced a plunge prior to reaching its lowest point at 600 million tonnes in 2008.
Meanwhile, after a slight increase to a little more than 600 million tonnes in 2006, there was mild decline in the quantity of waste disposal by burying at ocean to roughly 550 million in the remaining years of the period. In contrast, that the number of waste was burned had a gradual growth and it finally ranked first among three methods in 2008 by climbing to a peak at approximately 900 million tonnes.
