The graph below shows the population change between 1940 and 2000 in three different counties in the U.S. state of Oregon.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph illustrates the trends of population in three counties in America of Oregon (namely columbia, yamhill and washington) from 1940 to 2000.

In general, between 1940 and 2000, the number of citizens in these three counties were all in the ascendant. washington had the largest population during the period in question while columbia had the smallest.

As can be seen from the graph, in 1940, washington’s population, 75,000 people, was approximately twice of columbia and yamhill. it had dramatically increased to more than 120,000 people by 1970, before an exponential growth from 1970 to 2000 with nearly 120,000 people increases.

Compared to washington, columbia and yamhill’s population is considerably lower than it. Both columbia and yamhill had around 30,000 people in 1940, while yamhill was slightly higher than columbia. 30 years later, the growth rate of yamhill was marginally steeper than columbia, whereas they witnessed the similar changes from 1970 to 2000 with experiencing the number increase of 45,000 .
