The line graph presents the figures of people aged 65 and above in three regions namely, the United States, Sweden and Japan. The data was collected from 1940 and includes projections until the year 2040.
In 1940, the USA possessed the highest population of individuals aged 65 years and up with approximately nine percent, roughly a third of Sweden's. Both countries displayed a similar trend and increased to 15% and 14% respectively. The former's figures slightly dropped to one percent less in 2000 and is expected to remain unchanged for 20 years before peaking to 23% in 2040. The latter on the other hand depicted an erratic trend from 1980 and overtook the USA before the year 2000. Its population is projected to reach 25% at the end of the time frame.
Japan showed a different trend, starting with 5% in 1940 and plunging further by half after two decades. Its figures maintained at level until the late 1980's prior to a gradual rise back to 5% after the year 2000. The trends are expected to steeply elevate by more than five-folds in 2040.
One may conclude that the percentage of people aged 65 and above will be increased in a span of 100 years. It can also be observed that the USA was replaced by Sweden and Japan in the latter half of the survey period, and is perceived to remain with the least figures in the said age group by 2040.
