The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main feature and make comparisons where relevant

The line graph compares statistics on the percentage of dwellers whose ages are between 65 and more in Japan, Sweden, and the United States over a period of 100 years from 1940.
It is clear that the proportion of the elderly group witnesses an upward trend in each certain country throughout the given period. However, it is predicted that Japan will be on a dramatic rise according to overall population figures.
In 1940, the figure for Americans aged 65 or over was responsible for the highest rate, at well under 10%. During the same period, around 8% of elderly people were from Sweden, which was nearly 3% higher than those from Japan. Whereas the rate of Japanese inhabitants and Americans, who were in the age range of 65 and over, saw a moderate increase, reached the same outgoings with approximately 15% over the following 50 years, the percentage of elderly citizens in Japan went down by a half, which occupied below 3%. Besides, there were no significant changes in the proportion of the USA elderly bracket from 1980 to 2020.
By 2040, Japan, with the lowest rate over the period shown, will experience the greatest overall increase. It is expected to be a sharp growth of over 15% in the proportion of Japanese people aged 65 and more since the 2030s, to just above 27%. Similarly, the rate of Swedish and US inhabitants in the age range of 65 to over will climb steadily, at 25% and 23% respectively.
