The graph below shows relative price changes for fresh fruit and vegetables, sugar and sweets, and carbonated drinks between 1979 and 2009.
The line graph gives information regarding the changes in the price of three food product groups and the overall trend of the consumer-price index in 30 years from 1979 to 2009.
We can see that the consumer-price index rose steadily from just around 60 dollars in 1979 to reach its peak of almost 210 dollars in 2007 before stabilizing until the end of the period. Sugar & sweet and carbonated drinks appear to reflect the rise in the price of the consumer price index with a constant increase. These two categories started at the same amount of approximately 60 dollars, the price of sugar and sweets was finished in 2009 at a much higher price than the carbonated drink at 200 and around 155 dollars each respectively.
Regarding fresh fruit and vegetables, this category shared a similar pattern with the consumer-price index and other categories despite some fluctuations. Fresh fruit and vegetable price escalated to 100 dollars in 1983 from 1979, followed then by a slight fall to around 75 dollars two years later before heightening again. This pattern was seen repeating several times throughout the period, and its price ended at 325 dollars in 2009 after a meager decline from 340 in 2007.
In summary, a surge in price was seen on all three mentioned categories and as also for the consumer-price index. The fresh fruit and vegetable price saw the most significant changes over 30 years.
