The chart shows the average annual expenditures on cell and residential phone services of US consumers in the year 2001 to 2010. According to a Consumer Expenditure Survey conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, cell phone services range from $200 to $800 while residential phones average from $400 to $700.
A significant increase of average cost can be seen for cell phone services starting from $200 in 2001. The price spiked by approximately $100 each year reaching $500 in 2005 and almost $800 in 2010.
The residential phone services however, started at a higher average cost of $700 in 2001 then slightly dropped annually reaching a similar cost with cell services in 2006 at a range of $500-$600. In 2010, it dropped at almost half of its cost in 2001 at $400.
The amount that the consumers spend on cell phone and residential phone services ranges almost the same, although it can be seen that residential phone services cost decreased as cell phone cost increased in recent years.
