universities from 2001 to 2010.
Overall, the enrolments of overseas students in Australian universities was highest in 2010,
opposed to that of local students which were highest at 2002.
In 2001, the number of overseas students stood at nearly 20000 before increasing rapidly to
40000 in 2009. The figure witnessed a quick increase to over 40000 in the last year of the period.
The number of local students was recorded at approximately 200000 which was 10 times higher
than that of overseas students before reaching a peak at over 200000. The figure saw a rapid
increase to about 190000 in 2008 after declining slowly to 180000 in 2006.
