The graphs below show the size of ozone hole over Antarctica an the production of three ozone-damaging gases from 1980 to 2000. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The first chart illustrates the antarctica ozone hole’s size whereas the second one demonstrates the amount of production of the three types of gases including CFC-11, CFC-12 and N2O, which caused damage to the ozone layer between 1980 to 2000.

Generally, the size of the ozone hole in antarctica showed an upward trend as the amount of harmful gases released to the environment increased.

In particular, the ozone hole size was estimated at less than 500 kilometers (kms) square in 1980 before reaching a peak at about 2000 square kms in 1990. Although the figure experienced a decrease, it continued rising dramatically since 1995, and was measured to be more than 3500 square kms in the next five years.

In 1980, there were two gases recorded as causing harm to the environment, which were CFC-11 and CFC-12, figurating as A and B respectively. During the period of 20 years, the amount of production of B were steadily increase to over 40 million tonnes while that of A stablize at first, and dropped by nearly 65 million tonnes. it was not until 1990 that the record of N2O namely C was founded, and since then, the figure started to rise from zero to over 30 million tonnes in 2000.
