Line graph - differences in birth rates in China and the US

The line graph illustrates the differences in birth rates in China and the US over a period of 80 years, from 1920 to 2000.

Overall, the average annual number of births in the two countries showed almost them same pattern which decreased over the period.

At the beginning of the period, the birth rates in China and the US was almost the same, 10% and 15 %, respectively. From 1920 to 1935, the number of births in China increased to 15% before falling sharp to 5% in 1940. The figure remained stable in the next five years, and followed by a rocket climb to the highest rate, of 20% in 1948, throughout the 80-year period. However, the China birth rate saw a rapid decline to 10% in five years, and continued to go down gradually to the bottom at 2% by the end of the period.

When it comes to the US birth rate, the same pattern was occurred but less pronounced. The data shown a fluctuation in the first two decades; and then dropped significantly to below 5% in 1945 before reaching the its own peak at 15% in 1950. However, the figures started to decline gradually in the over the remainder of the period and stopped at 7%, about three times as high as that number of China by the year 2000.
