The graph depicts the changes in the percentage of customer’s spending on five fundamental needs namely food, leisure, clothing, transport, fuel in an unspecified country in European over the course of 40 years starting in 1960.
Looking at the figure, it is clear that while the expenditure for food, leisure, clothing and energy witnessed a downward trend throughout the period, spending on transport increased. Food expenditure share examined registered the highest in the given year.
In 1960, the percentage of expenses on food was the highest at 33%, then this figure underwent a dramatic decline, just over 14% in 2000. A similar pattern was seen in the spending figure for leisure, where this proportion decreased signìicant from over 18% to 11%.
While the amount of spending on clothing and fuel fell slightly, from 10% to 4% and 6% to 3% respectively between 1960 and 2000, the rate of expenditure on sport rose marginally in 1970 and increased rapidly in 30 years later with its figure amounting to 15% in 2000.
