The line graph shows the oil production and consumption

The line chart demonstrates how much oil was consumed and produced in China in the period from 1982 to 2006.
Looking at the illustration, there was an uplift in both the production and consumption of oil during the periods. Additionally, the oil consumption rose more dramatically compared to its production through 24 years.
At the beginning of the period, the barrels of oil produced and consumed were equal, at around 2 million. However, oil production had a significant growth to 3 million barrels and levelled off in 1986. During the four-year period, it stayed unchanged until 1994. Meanwhile, oil consumption witnessed its stability until 1990, and rose gradually to 3 million in 1994.
In the second period from 1994 to 2006, the figure for oil production had an upward trend, increasing slightly to 3,5 million per year. However, the oil consumption reached its highest point, approximately 6,5 million of barrels.
