The line graph shows the percentage of New Zealand population from 1950 to 2050
The given chart illustrates the proportion of people from 4 different groups in New Zealand between 1950 and 2020 and shows predictions about figures for the next 30 years.
As can be seen from the graph, when groups 0-14 and 38-45 will experience upward trends, those of two rest groups will see contrasted patterns. In addition, the figure of people over 65 was and will be the highest all the period.
In 1950, the percentage from 38-45 stood at 25% and that from over 65 at 65%. These two groups’ figures rose gradually and reached a peak at 45% and 70% respectively in 1990. After that, the figures fell slightly. While the proportion over 65 is estimated to decline to nearly 60% by the end of the period, that from 38-45 is predicted to grow minimally by 2050.
people aged 25-37 and under 14 were two groups that were less than others, just 20% and 5% of total respectively. The proportion of people aged 0-14 decreased marginally from 1950 to 1990, then rose rapidly and it is projected to be over 20% in 2050. There was a fluctuation in the figure of group 25-37, but it fell sharply and it will be 0% of total in the last year surveyed.
