The line graph compares the percentages of three types of crimes that are car theft, house burglar and street robbery in England and Wales, over 35 years from 1970 to 2005.
It’s clear that car theft had been the major crime during the period and the figures reached to the peak in year 1995. The data of house burglar also rose to the summit in the same year as that of car theft, and street robbery contributed the least to the number of crimes.
In 1970, car theft was the main crime in England and Wales, with around 18,000 totally, later the figure climbed slightly to 25,000 in the year 1995. While after rose to a peak of 32,000, the figure fell to 26,000. According to the chart, the statistics show that the numbers of crime were even more doubled than the prevalent data over the whole time.
House burglar was the second crime but merely around 9,000 in the year of 1970, and remained at this level until 1985. With a light increase up to 12,500 until 1995, the number dropped sharply by around 5000 as the lowest figure by 2005. By contrast, street robbery kept relative stable between 1970 and 1985 at 6,000. Then it overtook house burglar as the second crime in 2000 and rose to approximately 12,000 by 2005.
