Many museums charge for admission while others are free Do you think the advantages of charging people for admission to museums outweigh the disadvantages

Essay topics:

Many museums charge for admission, while others are free.
Do you think the advantages of charging people for admission to museums outweigh the disadvantages?

There has been a controversy over the issue of whether museums should charge admission fees to visitors since some museums do, whereas some do not. The two sides of this problem are discussed as follows.
On the one hand, imposing admission to museums may discourage both citizens and tourists from visiting the museums. Citizens often favour publicly open museums where tickets are not a requirement for entrance. A simple explanation for this is that people love free things. Therefore, it is an enormous loss to the museums if visitors do not visit the place just because of the entrance fee. Moreover, museums are not only tourist attractions but also historical places. However, expensive tickets may prevent tourists from travelling to these destinations, thus affecting tourism.
On the other hand, it is deemed necessary for museums to charge entrance fees as they can use the money to upgrade the museums’ quality. Admission can be used for several expenditures, including paying salaries for staff, upgrading infrastructure, and restoring artifacts. This is totally reasonable, especially in the case of self-regulate museums, whose finances are not supported by the government. Furthermore, museums can also employ the admission fee to improve the visitors’ experience by organizing more exhibitions or offering historical guides to foreigners. Consequently, charging admission fees provides museums with money to maintain and innovate the museums’ activities.
In sum, the issue has both advantages and disadvantages, but the positive effects from that outweigh its drawbacks. However, it is important to note that the ticket price should be charged reasonably so that the public can easily access the museums.
