The diagrams illustrate some proposed changes that have occurred at Queen Mary Hospital since it was built from 1960 to 2000.
It is clear that a lot of buildings experienced some alterations or were demolished, excluding a hospital over a period of 40 years. In addition, the principal changes to the hospital are the construction of a cancer centre, a pharmacy, a nursing school and the reduction in size of car park.
In 1960, the hospital was erected close to a main road and next to a shopping center. Otherwise, there was a farmland behind the shopping centre, and a car park which was built behind the hospital in the same year.
Looking at the map of Queen Mary Hospital after 20 years, the hospital and the car park were still there, while the farmland made way for a nursing school. Similarly, the shopping centre was demolished to build a pharmacy and a cancer centre.
The hospital and pharmacy stayed unchanged between 1980 and 2000. Conversely, the car park and nursing school diminished in size to make room for the expansion of the cancer center in the same period.
