Overall, Australian-born and non-Australian people who lived in cities had the highest figures. The greatest fall is seen in rural areas.
In 1995, the figure for Australian-born people who resided in cities was around 50%, while the figure for Australian-born people who resided in towns and rural areas were lower, at exactly 20% and approximately 30% respectively. In 2010, the proportion of Australian-born people who lived in cities rose by around 10%, while the proportion of Australian-born people who lived in towns and rural areas fel to nearly 18%.
In 1995, the percentage of non-Australian people who resided in cities was exactly 60% which was 20% higher than the figure for rural areas and approximately 50% more than the proportion of towns. In 2010, the proportion of non-australian population who resided in cities increased to 80%, while the proportion of non-Australian population who resided in rural areas and towns declined by nearly 15% and around 10% respectively
