The pictures illustrate three different types of bridges.
The pictures show three different versions of bridges.
Overall, all types of bridges allow ships with different sizes to come through. Meanwhile, it finds it unnecessary to use a pier aimed for constructing an arch bridge, two other types of bridge need to have piers to hold up.
An arch bridge with a simple design usually across a lake. There is a limitation of both the height and the extent of the bridge, no more than about 100m and 200m, respectively. The arch bridge just permits a ship in smaller size to go through under the bridge.
The more sophisticated type of bridges called concrete girder bridges are built across the river with unlimited length and the number of piers. However, the maximum height of each pier as well as distance between piers are 300m and 200m, respectively.
Finally, the suspension bridge erected in the deep sea area is the biggest type of bridge with giant piers. That the range of two piers is from 400m to 2000m allows large size ships to go through.
