The chart demonstrates what affected the productivity of agricultural land poorly. The table presents the influence of these reasons on three regions of the world during the 1990s.
There are three major issues behind worldwide land degradation, and these are over-grazing, deforestation and over-cultivation. Over 30 per cent of land is degraded because of over-grazing, exactly 30 per cent is deteriorated due to deforestation, and more than a quarter of degraded land is caused by over-cultivation.
Europe had the biggest amount of deteriorated land compared to the other two regions. Most of the degraded land in Europe was caused by deforestation. The land of North America was deteriorated the least, and only 5 per cent of its land was degraded. The most major cause there was over-cultivation, and, unlike Europe, less than one per cent of North American land had suffered from deforestation. Oceania had 13 per cent of degraded land, however, in comparison to other regions, most of its land was deteriorated by one issue, over-grazing.
