Scientists agree that people ruin their health by eating junk food. Some people think that the best way to prevent people from eating junk food is to educate them, while others believe that this won't work.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

There is almost no doubt among nutrition experts that processed foods, which are commonly known as fast food or junk food, are indeed “junk” food. They carry little or no nutritious substances and are often high in fat and other harmful substances. Despite this fact, they are vastly consumed by people, specially the youth, and this is a major health problem in almost every country around the globe.

However, how society should tackle this situation remains subject to controversy. Some individuals believe that the best way to uproot this problem is educating people. After all, no rational person will eat something if he believes it is harmful for his body and can possibly endanger his life. Educating people will be the most effective, if it is commenced from an early age, when they are children in primary school or even preschool. Psychologists tell us that if a child internalizes a value, he will most likely stick to it later in his life.

On the other hand, some people disagree with this argument. A common example among these category is smoking. Research suggests that almost every smoker is to some degree aware of the consequences of smoking, yet this knowledge to not interpret into quitting. This school of thought is a strong advocate of government regulation that limit the consumption of junk food, like regulation around smoking.

In conclusion, health subjects are always a matter of great debate both in academia and among citizens. In my opinion, adequate education is necessary for school goers to internalize the value of eating healthy food and build up the culture, and then a minimal regulation to ensure production and distribution of harmful products are ceased.
