it is increasingly common for youngsters to take a gap year before beginning further education at university.
Although this situation might have some negative effects on youngsters, I believe that the benefits it could bring are far more significant.
One of the main disadvantages of youngsters taking a gap year is getting too attracted to the working life. they feel more comfortable because they don’t have to suffer pressure from schoolwork. Furthermore, earning money early at this age is already an achievement so they are easily satisfied. For this reason, they might decide to quit school and start working completely. they can only be qualified for manual jobs with low salaries and little chance for career development. Another disadvantage is interrupt the learning process. they forget some academic knowledge and also get out of study habits. they find it difficult to get used to university life and catch up with peers.
On the other hand, taking a gap year before beginning further education at university could bring several benefits. To begin with gaining practical experience of work or travel. they meet different people and face new problems. they can develop some skills such as communication skills, problem-solving and adaptability. When they go back to school, these skills are useful for their studies at university and future job. Secondly, they find out what they are truly passionate about try new activities such as part-time job, volunteer work and traveling. also they discover their interest as well as strengths and weaknesses. Subsequently, they make a better career choice at university.
All in all, I think that the advantages of work or travel for a year between finishing high school and starting university studies is greater than the disadvantages.
