The table and chart show the time spent at leisure and household activities in 2008.

The chart and table compare the amount of time male and female spent on in terms of housework and recreational activities per day in 2008 in UK.

In general, women were more likely to do household chores while men tended to spend more of their time on pastimes.

Looking at the first table, it can be seen that people spent most time on TV, video and radio, with 137 minutes for men and 118 minutes for women respectively. The reading section had significantly lower figures as well as a narrower gap between genders. While people seemed to spend the least time on sport out of 7 categories, with merely 15 minutes for men and 11 minutes for women.

There was a large gender disparity in the second graph. Over 70 minutes were spent on cooking & washing by women per day, that is, two times higher than men’s (around 30 minutes). Similar trends can be seen in both clothes washing & ironing sector and shopping sector though their figures were relatively lower. However, the repair category showed an opposite pattern, with men consuming nearly 20 minutes each day compared to only half of that for women.
