The table and pie charts illustrates information about the quantity of students doing research in Australian University within two separate year 2001 and 2010.
Overall, the majority of domestic students selected research programs in 2001. In addition, there was an upward trend in the number of both domestic and foreign students participating in research programs during a decade surveyed.
There was a slight growth in the quantity of local students following research programs, from 33,675 to 39,488 while that of foreign students doing research almost trebled, from 5,192 to 14,593.
In 2001, the proportion of male foreign students was over two time as high as that of female foreign students with 10% and 4% respectively, while the proportion of male domestic students and the counterparts were equal at 43%.
In 2010, the proportion of male foreign students and the counterparts significantly climbed, correspondingly from 10% to 12%, 4% to 15%. In contrast, the majority of domestic students, (73%) pursued research programs, in which the percentages of male and female local students were 35% and 39% respectively
