The table below give information about sales of Fairtrade – labelled coffee and bananas in 1999 and 2004 in five European countries.
The table represents the sales of coffee and bananas in five European countries, namely; the UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium and Sweden from 1999 to 2004. The units are measured in millions of Euros.
Overall, the UK sold the most of coffees within European countries while Switzerland sold most bananas. It is apparent that, Sweden sold the least bananas and coffees among other European countries.
In terms of coffee sales, the UK sold the most of 1.5 million euros in 1999 which figure rose drastically to reach at 20 million euros by 2004, followed by Switzerland’s coffee sales which doubled its sales from 3 million euros in 1999. In contrast, 0.8 million euros of coffee were sold in Sweden in 1999 and this sale grew to 1 million euro in 2004.
Meanwhile, the Switzerland sold the highest number of bananas of 15 million euros in 1999 and by 2004, this sale recorded at 47 million euros. The UK also experienced a remarkable grows in its banana sale from 1 million euro to 5.5 million euros in the same periods, whereas Sweden sold the least bananas of 1.8 million euros in 1999 but this dropped to 1 million euros in 2004. Denmark had the same declining trend from 2 million euros to 0.9 million euros in the projected period.
