The table below gives information about changes in modes of travel in England between 1985 and 2000.

The table of data represent the average distance in miles for different modes of transport for each person in England in 1985 and 2000.

Overall, walking, cycling and using of local bus lost popularity at the end of the given period, while usage indicators of others ways of travelling increased.

With respect to the year 1985, 3199 miles out of total 4740 were travelled by car that rose to 4806 miles out of total 6475 in the year of 2000. The second most common way of travelling in the table for these two years was for others transport modes which were far less than that of cars (450 miles) and increased to 585 miles in 2000. The lowest figure in 1985 seem was for travel by taxi, standing at a mere 13 miles, however, escalated to a value of 42 miles by 2000.

Meanwhile, local bus was one of the most popular transport mode (429 miles) in the year of 1985 but lost its position almost twice (274 miles) at the end of researching period. The same trend was followed by walking and cycling as in 1985, 255 miles were travelled by a British citizen on foot and 52 miles by bicycle, and their distance of both decreased slightly in 2000.
