The table illustrates the proportion of students in three different groups studying in six different fields in an Australian university in 2011.
A cursory glance at the diagram is enough to make it clear that females accounted for the highest proportion of students studying humanities, education and science in the given year.
According to the diagram, the percentage of female students studying humanities in 2011, which was the majority of students in this college, was much higher than those who had first language which is not English and those who were born outside Australia which were 12% and 20% respectively. Similar to this, out of the education, there was 68%, 16% and 23% of students who are female, students whose first language is not English and who were not born in Australia respectively. Moreover, there was a moderate difference between the proportion of students from these groups in studying science as well as physics. To be more specific, 52% of total students studying science were females, whereas 45% for students with first language not English and 31% for students born outside Australia. Also, in physics, there was 56%, 38%, 56% respectively.
In contrast, females who studied information technology was 17% and studied engineering was 15%, which is much lower than the rate of students born outside Australia in these fields (56% and 48% respectively)
Overall, it is interesting to note that students who are females in this college had a tendency to choose humanities, education, science, physics to learn rather than information technology and engineering in this year.
