The table illustrates the release and income from cinema of various types of independent films in the UK and Ireland in the year 2012.
At the first glance, it is clear that drama and documentary had the largest numbers of films made, while the highest figure in term of income from ticket sales belonged to comedy and horror categories.
There was the same number of films made in drama and documentary, at 35 releases for each, although the money earned from cinema was not remarkable. Comedy was the third popular type in 2012 whereas the ticket sales of this kind of film gained the largest proportion, with 45.4% of income. In particular, while horror movies just accounted for 9.5% of all releases, the income from cinema took the second place among all sorts of film, at 20.2%.
On the other hand, there was just a biopic movie published which compromised 0.7%. However, this film gained nearly a tenth income from ticket sales, as opposed to the romance type, with the lowest revenue from cinema (0.8%) corresponding to 3.4% of all releases.
