the table below shows the amount of waste production in 6 different countries over a 20-year period.
The table compares the quantities of waste manufactured in 6 nations during the period from 1980 to 2000.
Overall, US dominated others nations in the amount of waste produced. While the quantities of waste in 5 others countries followed an upward trend, the data of Korea saw a decrease.
In 1980, the amount of waste in US was extremely high at 131 million of tons. This figure was nearly 5 times greater than that of Japan which accounted for 28 million of tons. However, in comparison with US and Japan, the amount of waste in Ireland, Poland and Portugal was trivial with 0.6; 4; 2 million of tons respectively. In this year, no data were recorded in Korea.
Over the next two decades, the waste production in US still increased gradually and reached 192 million of tons in 2000. Similarly, after two decades the waste in Japan kept increasing and doubled in the last year. The period has witnessed a very slightly rise in the amount of waste in 3 nations Ireland, Portugal and Poland which ranged from 5 to 7 tons each. In contrast Korea in 1990 the quantity of Korea was close to that of Japan but then reduced by a half in 2000.
