The table below shows changes in the numbers of residents cycling to work in different areas of the UK between 2001 and 2011.

The chart gives the information about how the number of residents cycling to work changes in 12 areas of England over a period of 10 years.

It is clear that inner London by far had the most cycling persons comparing to other 11 areas. And the number of the UK residents cycling to work considerably increased over these years.

In 2001, over 40 thousand residents went to work by bike, and this figure rose to more than 106 thousand in 2011, which increased by 144%. By contrast, although outer London had the second highest proportion of people riding to work in 2001, this figure only rose by 45% until 2011, which was the lowest of the 12 arean shown in the table.

The 10 years saw the second highest percentage change of 109% in Brighton and Hove, from 3,168 in 2001 to 6,635 in 2011. It is noticeable that Bristol became the second city in terms of total number of cycling wrokers in 2011, with the number of 15,768. Figures for these areas, except inner London, Bristol and outer London, were all well below 10 thousand in both years.
