The given table compares statistics regarding the number of various types of household in UK in 5 different years from 1971 to 2007
Overall, the families with no children or one person families has experienced a growth in their number while figures for families with children (dependent or Non-dependent) has been decreasing ever since.
one person families and lone parents had experienced a significant growth in number. In 1971 only 6% of families was one person over the following 30 years the figures doubled and in 2001 12% of the families were one person and it stayed 12% until 2007. The percentage for lone parent families was 4% in the year 1971 and it increased dramatically until 2001 which it tripled and stayed 12% over the next 6 years.
The households of couples compare to other families had a mix pattern in proportion. the couples with no children were about one in five of statistics in 1971 while in 2002 they were one in four. couples with dependent children were just more than half OF families (52%) IN 1971 and their proportion went down constantly over the 36 years to 36%i 2007. the proportion of households of couples with non- dependent children was 10% in 1971 and remained almost the same until 2007.
