The table illustrates how different households altered in Great Britain between 1971 and 2007. The units are measured in percentages.
Overall, it is apparent that there was an increase in changes in families including one person, no children and lone parent whereas the percentages of households with dependent and non-dependent children experienced a downward trend over the given period. Additionally, no data was provided regarding the one-family households and couples.
It is noticeable that the figures for all three types of households (one person, no children and single parent) almost doubled every decade. In 1971, the first form of household showed a 6% change, which then continued to rise reaching the peak of 12% in the final year. Similarly, starting at 4%, the percent change of lone parent households increased reaching the same percentage with the previous household in 2007. In the families without children, the modification totalled 19%, followed by a constant growth to 25% in 2007.
Regarding the families with dependent children, the figure started at 52% in the first year, which was the highest change among all the families. However, it began to fall hitting the lowest point of 36% in 2007, which was still the biggest number. Likewise, non-dependent children families also saw a decline from 10% to 9% during this thirty-six-year period.
