The table below shows the production and consumption of natural gas in different countries in 2001. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and making comparisons where relevant.
This table shows the information on natural gas consumed and produced by nine different territories in the first year of the 21st century. It can be observed that the USA, the Former Soviet Union, Japan and South Korea utilized the resources more than they exploited them, while the opposite was true in the case of the other five countries.
Most noticeably of all, it is evident that the USA was the largest in both resource consumption and production, the former at almost 589 million tonnes and the latter at 500 million, to the extent where the numbers were five or seven times larger than those for the United Kingdom, which was in second place in the same category. In contrast, there was little or no record in the number of gas production of the Former Soviet Union, South Korea and Japan although their usages were moderate with around 7, 20 and 69 million tonnes respectively.
On the other hand, China and New Zealand were 2 of the nations where the gap between gas usage and exploitation was less than 1 million tonnes, whereas the gap for Australia and the UAE varied between around 6 and 9 million tonnes.
