The table illustrates the findings of a 20-year research on the question why elder people in the UK attend arts events.
Overall, it is clearly seen that the desire to see a specific performer is the main reason for this trend. In addition to this, compared to the past today fewer people visit arts events for celebrations.
To begin, 20 years ago 58% of adults in the UK went to arts events for seeing a specific performer/artist. 10 years ago there was a decline in this rate(55%), but today this figure stands at 56%. By contrast, the proportion of people going to arts events for work/business is the lowest among these. 20 years ago, only 6% of adults attented arts events because if this reason. However, today this proportion increased to 11%
Similarly, two decades ago only 9% of adults in the UK went to arts events to accompany their children, after 10 years this rose to 15% and today it stands at 24%. In the case of special occasion/celebrations, 20 years ago the figures were at 27%. This declined to 20% after 10 years and today only 9% the adults in UK visit arts events for this reason.
